Services Offered at the Surgery

We offer a full range of Medical Services.

Most are provided on the NHS, though there is a charge for some, some as Private Medical Certificates, HGV Medicals etc.

All the Doctors offer a full range of services, including~

          Contraceptive Services (Though if you you wish to discuss a contraceptive coil, you should see Dr Nunn)

          Minor Surgery, including joint injection, removal of cysts and skin tags, freezing warts & veruccas etc.

          Child Health Surveillance & Immunisations, in conjunction with our Health Visitor, Mrs. Hazel Kindleysides

          Ante & Post Natal Care in conjunction with our Midwife, Mrs Alison Boocock and visiting local Obstetrician, Mr A. Booth

          Travel Immunisations, including Yellow Fever. If you intend travelling overseas, you should phone MASTA on (or go to www.masta.org) for up to date advice on your medical needs, and then make an appointment with Sister for your vaccinations.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our Practice Nurses run our Surveillance Clinics for common diseases, including

          Asthma

          Diabetes Mellitus

                       we work in with opticians and Retinal Photography at Scarborough Hospital to ensure all diabetics have their eyes inspected at least once a year

                       we aim to ensure ideal control of sugar levels with at least 6monthly tests, kidneys annually, and ideal control of blood pressure and other heart risk factors

          Cardiovascular Disease

          if you have angina or have had a heart attack or stroke we aim to review you every 6 months to ensure your blood pressure is ideally controlled, your cholesterol is at leat below 5mM, and you have a healthy lifestyle, including diet, exercise and smoking

          High Blood Pressure

          Stopping Smoking Clinic run in conjunction with the PCT. We use group work, nicotine replacement (including patches and gum) and a drug called buproprion (Zyban), which seems to help some motivated smokers to quit  

  • Sister Rachel Barker runs Teenage Drop In Clinics at Route 22 (Youth Club) on Brooklands in Filey, Mondays, 12- 1pm, where teenagers can drop in without an appointment to discuss their problems, including contraception.

Drug abuse

We DO NOT offer Drug Rehabilitation Services here at the Filey Surgery, though we MAY take a drug addict on our list, if they agree to sign our standard drug addiction contract- click here to read. We liaise with Compass, 65 Falsgrave Road in Scarborough, re methadone maintenance- we do NOT prescribe it her.

We do not have the training or the Resources to deal with this sort of problem. These are available through the TACT Team at the Ellis Centre in Scarborough. Phone 356090.
