Morning After Contraception

What's Available:

"Morning After Pill"

This isn't really just for the "Morning After", but for up to 3 days after intercourse. It's a special form of the contraceptive Pill called Levonelle. It's only effective if it's taken within 72 hours- that's three days- of the ONLY episode of unprotected intercourse- when you might have got pregnant- since your last period. It's not totally effective, but it's pretty good.

You can get it by :

  • seeing your GP or Sister at the Surgery. You'll have to ask for an Emergency (Same Day)  Appointment at Reception.
  • you can also Sister Rachel Barker at the Drop In Clinic at Monday lunch - click here to find out details

or

  • RIchardson's Chemists (Moss's) on Belle Vue Street can provide it for free without you even having to see a Doctor

Coil

In certain circumstances, a doctor can fit a contraceptive coil up to 5 days after unprotected intercourse, to try to stop the fertilised egg implanting into your womb. There  an be problems with this, so it's best not relied on.
