Emergencies & "Out of Hours" Consultations

In An Emergency

In an Emergency, eg severe chest pain, severe shortness of breath, sudden collapse, serious bleeding or injury etc.

either

take the patient immediately to Accident and Emergency Department at Scarborough Hospital

or

Dial 999 for the Ambulance

Please understand that the Filey Surgery, like all Doctors' Surgeries,  is designed, equipped and staffed as a Doctor's Surgery, not an Accident & Emergency Department.

Out of Hours Emergencies

Accident & Emergency, NHS Direct and North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors (NYED)

OUT OF HOURS CONSULTATIONS

The Surgery is open (apart from lunch break, 12.00 midday  - 2pm)

  • between 8am and 7 pm Monday to Thursday

  • between 8am and 6 pm Friday

Outside these times, and on Public Holidays, General Practice Out of Hours cover is offered via North Yorkshire Emergency Doctors (NYED). Unless there are compelling reasons such as a truly bed -bound patient, you will be expected to attend the Co-Op based at Scarborough Hospital to see the Doctor.

Obtaining Health Advice Out of Hours.

A good source is NHS Direct Online, click here.or ring 0845 4647

To contact the Doctor or District Nurse "Out of Hours", phone 515881. Your Call will be routed through NHS Direct, a Nurse & Computer run Triage (a way of sorting calls) Service to help decide how your call might best be handled.

If the Nurse at NHS DIrect decides that a Doctor is the best person to help you, a doctor based at the Co-Operative will ring you back to clarify matters.

The doctor will decide how and where you might best be helped- either by~

  •         telephone advice

  •           calling the District Nursing, Social Services or Community Mental Health Services

  •           a consultation at the Co-Operative at the Hospital,

  •          calling the Ambulance urgently

  •        a home visit

Please understand that should the doctor decide your problem is best helped by attendance at the Co-Operative, any transport or Child Care will be YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to arrange.
