Scarborough
We think we've got a pretty
good life in Filey-
that's why the world comes to us on their hols. We've got:~

cheap
housing to
buy, and often to rent out of the main holiday season
•
good
schools
- the local secondary school, Filey
School, has had consistently excellent
Ofsted reports, and it's exam results are
the equal of Scalby
School at "the Knobs'
End" of Scarborough, with a very different catchment area. In the private
sector, Scarborough College is
well respected.

great
country side & coast 5 miles of sandy Filey Beach, cliffs at Flamborough
and the North Yorks Moors National
Park. Filey Brig and nearby Bempton
Cliffs are both internationally recognised bird-watching sites
•
low
crime & drug problems though
this means we are unable to offer some of the experience in handling insoluble
social & drug problems that some other Training Practices can offer you

traffic our
nearest traffic lights are 8 miles away in Scarborough. Parking is never a
problem!

communications, especially with Northern Europe via P&O
Ferries from Hull (1 hour) to Rotterdam and Zeebrugge. York is 40 minutes down
the A64, Leeds & the West Riding an hour

entertainments
including the nationally recognised Stephen
Joseph Theatre in Scarborough

facilities
- several of the staff & two of the partners go to the gym most days at the Sports Centre on Scarborough Road, where
there's also an active squash ladder.
Hunmanby Hall houses a popular gym,
tennis & golf clubs. There's also golf at Filey
Golf Club, Ganton & a municipal links at Bridlington. One partner's wife
runs with Scarborough Running Club.
There's keen local swimming and rowing clubs. The local Sailing
Club at Filey has a large dinghy & cat fleet. The beach is used by horse riders, divers, windsurfers, fishermen, hang gliders, parascenders,
joggers and recently kitesurfers
& buggiers.
Surfing
is probably the best on the entire East Coast.
Generalising wildly, in the
past we've noticed that the people who settle in the best in the Filey area have
often had support outwith the surgery - a partner at home to enjoy the area and
discuss life with, or a circle of friends, perhaps back at the hospital. Part of
Filey's somewhat archaic charm comes from it's relative isolation, and a slight
hint of being somewhat behind the times. Its wonderful life-style has attracted
a holiday and retirement population.
If you're single, and like to
trip the light fantastic and like to go out every night in city centre
nightclubs, you may not feel like a fish in water in Filey. (Though on
reflection, the night clubs in Scarborough have served several past Registrars
very well....) If you're single, without any previous links to the area, don't come to Filey expecting that
it will definitely provide you with your new life partner, though- try
a dating agency instead.
If you've got support and like
a semi-rural lifestyle- this could be your place.
