Waits for Appointments- How We Work

Unlike may other Doctors' Surgeries, we have said we will offer an appointment for ALL URGENT PROBLEMS THE SAME WORKING DAY.

  • The appointment will not necessarily be with your usual doctor.

  • The appointment will ONLY be to consider your ONE URGENT PROBLEM, as you will be fitted into a short assessment appointment.

  • It may be that your problem might be better dealt with by the Pharmacist (the flu, for instance), one of our Nurses (a cut, or perhaps cystitis or the like),  our Health Visitor (a possetting Baby, perhaps), or by NHS Direct for self- medication advice- Ring 0845 4747 or click here)

To offer this service, our trained Reception Team have to ask you a few confidential quest ions , to determine how best we can help you.

What is an Urgent Problem?

Some examples of Urgent Problems might be:-

  • Pain, that has come on in the last few days, not controlled by usual pain killers such as paracetamol,

  • distressing symptoms that have just arisen in the last few days, such as cystitis or shortness of breath

What is NOT an Urgent Problem?

  • Problems that have been present for over a week or so, unless they have just got a lot worse

  • Sick notes (they can always be back-dated)

When is a Visit Necessary?

We work to what are called the "North Staffordshire Rules". These are nationally accepted rules that help us decide if a visit is necessary. To view these rules, click here
